Thousand-hand Bodhisattva Kannon
The performance of Thousand-hand Bodhisattva dance performed by 21 hearing impaired girls and boys at the 2005 CCTV Spring Festival Gala caused a nationwide sensation.
The entire audience was thrilled by the synchronized movements dancers, who performed with exquisite grace and precision, even though they couldn't hear the music.
They all turned on their mobile phones immediately after leaving the stage with almost as much uniformity as they performed their spectacular dance. Chen Cen was among them. "Each of us was immersed in cheerful text messages from all over, from our family members, teachers, classmates and friends," she said in sign language as she sat next to me. "I received some messages sent by my dad, mom and younger brother. They all were excited to see me on TV. Mom even cried for joy."

Members of the Himachal Federation of the Blind will observe December 3 as black day and stage a dharna in front of the state Vidhan Sabha in protest against the indifferent attitude of the government towards their demands.
Mr Deva Singh Negi, President of the Federation, said here today that despite repeated requests the government had not taken any steps to implement the demands. The federation had been thoroughly disappointed with the negative attitude of the bureaucracy which forced it to stage a protest on the opening day of the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha.
He said for the blind persons the change of government in the state had not made any difference. The federation took out a procession on August 24 last and held talks with the welfare minister, but despite his assurance to concede the demands nothing had been done so far.
The main demands included 1 per cent reservation in jobs for blind persons on the pattern of neighbouring states, setting up of school for the blind, Rs 1000 per month as unemployment allowance, free education and boarding and lodging facility.

The Association of the Disabled in Sulemani is to launch an exhibition to mark the occasion of the World Handicap Day, under the supervision of the PUK PM Dr Barham Salih.
The exhibition will come under the motto "The Association of the Disabled is the home, the school and the protection centre for the rights of the disabled."
The exhibition will take place in the Zamwa Gallery on Wednesday, 18 December.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Ganesh Naik announced, “The practice examination was conducted for the first time in the city and it has received a tremendous response. The students have benefited a lot. This year, the practice exam was conducted for Marathi medium students. Next year onwards, the practice exam will be conducted for SSC as well as HSC students, belonging to both, Marathi and English mediums.”
The president of Navi Mumbai Shikshan Sankul and the Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Naik said, “This year’s SSC board examination is based on a new syllabus. Hence, it was necessary to conduct such practice examinations.”
