Florida is bordered by Georgia and Alabama to the north. On the west Florida is bordered by Alabama and the Gulf of Mexico. To the south and to the east, Florida is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
53,997 square miles of Florida are land areas.
11,761 square miles of Florida are covered by water making Florida the 3rd wettest state behind Alaska and Michigan.
The highest point in Florida is Britton Hill, Lakewood Park in Walton County and is only 345 feet above sea level. Walton County is located in the Florida Panhandle.

Monthly average temperatures range from a high of 91.7 degrees to a low of 39.9 degrees.

The land of swaying palm trees and warm ocean breezes is quite flat with a rolling landscape to its highest point in the Northwest. Part of three geographic land areas make up the Florida landscape;
the Atlantic Coastal Plain,
the East Gulf Coastal Plain and
the Florida Uplands.

Florida, with over 3,800 native or naturalized plant species, has the third largest flora in the United States. Of these, about 4% occur only in Florida. Although much has been written on Florida's plants, no modern single published flora exists for the state. The purpose of the Flora of Florida project is to produce such a flora.

KEY WEST, Florida Keys, 2007 -
The work of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Robert Frost is to be celebrated through Sunday, April 15, on the grounds of the cottage Frost considered his winter retreat from 1945 to 1960.

The 13th annual Robert Frost Poetry Festival is to include poetry and haiku workshops and readings, an art and film event, a poetry slam, a sunset poetry sail and the announcement of the winners of the Robert Frost Poetry Festival international haiku and poetry contests.
